Intellichlor IC40 - works, dead, works, dead ???

I have an IC40 that is now about 4 years old. I live in MI. Towards the end of last season it started acting up. One day it would work fine, the next day it would be dead. No lights or any sign of life. Other times it wouldn't come on when the pump was turned on, but I would check a couple hours later and it would be working fine. Well, I hoping it was just a fluke, when I turned it on this year it seemed to work fine for the first couple weeks, now it's doing the same old thing. Fine sometimes and sometimes its dead. Kicks in on it's own some days a while after the pool is running, and some days it never kicks in. I've checked the power coming out of the powers supply and everything checks out. Checked the fuse as well, and it's fine. Is this a sign of the cell going bad or is there something I'm missing? Has anyone else ever experienced this? It's driving me crazy and I don't want to drop $500 on a new one if I don't have to. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Water chemistry can cause an issue with the cell not operating, (please see manual for requirements). The cell has a lifespan anywhere from 3-5 years, I would recommend to verify your water chemistry first and bring it into range if necessary.

Please see owners manual for chemical requirements

Thank you for the reply Richard - I have had the water tested a couple different times and the Chemistry has been good. The intellichlor unit acts as if it has no power at all - no lights - and then out of nowhere, it lights up like a Christmas tree and starts working. It's very sporadic though. I can work for a few days and then not work for a few days, or hours. There is no pattern to it not working. Almost like there is a short in the unit itself. Like I mentioned above, I've checked power coming from the supply and all is working perfect. It's driving me crazy that I can't find the cause of the issue.
