Intellichem Pump is pumping water into the acid container

Weird issue here - halfway through the winter i noticed my acid container was filling up. At first I thought the lid wasn't secure but after dumping everything and sealing the lid again, the container again starting filling. I finally caught the intellichem in the act of dosing and it was pumping water into the container. How can the pump flow be reversed? It always worked right before, so I am very confused how this could happen.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same issue. Ended up being a failed pump head on the Intellichem box. Pretty simple replacement to replace just the pump head and not the whole pump unit. When the head fails, it allows water to flow back from the box to the tank. Made a big acid mess for me when it caused the tank to overflow. It seems the pump heads only last a year or two, mine failed in the first year and the replacement is already rusted.

Thanks for the input! I have several other issues I am dealing with so I contacted Pentair technical support and they are having a local shop come out to check out some things. Hopefully I can get everything worked out.

Mike,
Timo is correct that the issue could be with the pump head or the check valve. If you have any further issues, don’t hesitate to contact us.

I bought the Intellichem

I bought the Intellichem system with 1 pump for acid feed. The pump appears to be the wrong one because there is a toggle switch to turn it on and no wires for tying it into the Intellichem box. Can someone tell me the part no. of the pump I should have got with the kit? Is there a manual pump on the IntelliPH system and the supplier just put the wrong one in the box? I was expecting the intellichem to control the acid feed automatically and all I would do was make sure acid was in the container.

The pump wiring would be attached to the external relay port on the IntelliChem board. You would need to cut into the wire and interrupt the hot wire going to the pump and leave the toggle switch in the on position. From there, the IntelliChem controls when this relay is closed supplying voltage to the pump.

What are the advantages of this setup (using an external Stenner pump as opposed to the standard pump that is side-mounted to the IntelliChem enclosure)? Does Pentair now sell all its IntelliChem systems in this configuration, or does it vary with vendor?

Todd,
Currently all the IntelliChems that come with pumps are being shipped with the Stenner pump. We are using this equipment while we reengineer the side mounted versions.
