Intellichlor IC40 "Cell" light blinking green

I have a 3+ year old intellichlor IC40, installed in August 2010. After opening my pool this year, the "Cell" light is blinking green, which signifies no chlorine is being generated. All other lights on the chlorinator are green. I've cleaned the device using both high pressure garden hose as well as the suggested muriatic acid solution. After re-installing the chlorinator, the "Cell" light stays solid green for a couple of minutes before returning to the problematic flashing state.

When visually inspecting the chlorinator, there is no build up.

When I hold down the "More" button to determine end of life, it goes to 60%.

What else is there to do to remedy or repair? Or am I stuck having to replace?

Michael,
This is an indication that the cell is recognizing that it cannot produce the chlorine as it used to. If all your other lights are appropriate and you cleaned the cell ensuring that there is no build up, you would most likely be looking to replace the cell. Multiple things could contribute to this but most likely blade deterioration in your case.

Thanks. Is it possible that the water temp has to be above a certain level for the chlorinator to produce chlorine? I live in the Midwest, and it's still been unseasonably cool. Water temp probably not even above 60 degrees, yet.

Water temperatures below 52

Water temperatures below 52 degrees will prevent the cell from turning on. If your cell is equipped with a light indicating cold water, this will be illuminated. If not, the cell light would simply not be lit.

My ic40 too did the same

My ic40 too did the same thing, and after wasting 2 feet of heated pool water and a bevy of chemicals, and still with the green light flashing at me, which I have read that also indicates there is a problem but it is still producing chlorine, I finally came across the answer, Some of the older /ic40's need to be recalibrated and the following link has easy instructions on just how to do it. I recalibrated mine today, it was telling me my salt content was low, but after multiple tests, it was a solid 3640ppm.
I finished the recalibration a second time and "Voila" problem solved and cell running like a charm. Funny pentair does not refer you too this, Good luck if you have not figured it out yet and hopefully it did not cost you a new call!

Doug we appreciate the reference in your post to RedSquare Pools. There seems to be a lot of confusion among homeowners when it comes to maintenance and operation questions related to their salt cell systems. My light keeps blinking. I have done the maintenance (pressure wash and acid wash) multiple times, I have even replaced the cell, still stays on. Any help would be great. It is a newer version so I can't calibrate.

David, with a new cell and your cell light is blinking, if your water temperature is below 59 degrees, this could be activating your cell light to blink, my recommendation at this point is to make sure your water chemistry is within range on page 10 in the manual, if your water is within, please contact us at 1-800-831-7133

I have a Pentair IC40 that is 2 years old and having the same problem. My water temperature is 80 degrees. I have cleaned the cell three times making sure the power was off to reset, but the light stays green for a couple of minutes after the reset and starts to blink. Additionally, my salt level is blinking green saying my chlorine level is too high. My ScreenLogic tells me my salt level is at 9900. I have had it electronically tested and it is 3400. Any suggestions?

I have also had the same issue with the IC40. Mine is less than 2 years old and I've done everything I can think of. Acid wash, had water tested (within normal limits with the exception of low chlorine due to no output), temp is 85 degrees. Yet, when I first turn the system on it stays green for about 5 min than blinks green slowly. PLease help, I've called the number above several times but all it does is ring once and disconnects. Last week I was able to get through only to be put on hold for an hour then get disconnected waiting for tech.

At 3 years old, depending on how many hours a day your run it, the cell maybe dying if its not low water temperature or low salt. . Mine went down almost a year ago and we decided to give the https://oxygenpools.com/ chlorine free system a try as it was about the same price as a replacement cell and I've been happy with the change.
