My Intelliflo pump leaks (drips) at the interface of the pump and motor. Pump has been in service four years. Do I need to replace the seal plate assembly or more? Can it be done without disconnecting the pump from the system?
Most likely the mechanical shaft seal would be the only item that would need to be replaced but of course I couldn’t say that absolutely unless you have a service tech inspect it. The unit can be inspected or repaired without having to disconnect the wet end from the plumbing but the housing will need to be opened and separated.
Disassembled pump, removed and inspected the shaft seal from the seal plate. No obvious damage but it could be worn. Is the spring loaded seal a standard PS1000 mechanical seal? The mating seal surface on the impeller looks OK. Also, though unrelated, discovered that the O Ring on the diffuser is oversized 3.69 inch ID vs 3.484 spec which kept it from properly sealing to the pot.
Removed and replaced the shaft seal in the seal plate. No issues. Unclear how to remove and replace the mating seal from the impeller?? No obvious way to grasp the embedded seal. Special tool?
Persuaded second seal with paint can opener. Seals replaced. No more leaks. Thank you Pentair customer service for directing me to the correct seal.
