Hi,

There seems to be some uncertainty with regard to creating a schedule in screen logic to run the main pump (VF series) for 24hrs without stopping - both my pool guy and local Pentair rep say there needs to be a break in the cycle but the manual seems to say otherwise.

If you want a circuit to run 24 hours a day without stopping should the program be from 8:00am-8:00am or from 8:00am-7:59am?

They have said doing from 8-8 "confuses" the system but it seemed to be working fine for me before they came and changed everything.

I want to background filter my pool 24/7 but the pump won't come on unless I put a gpm in and then create the schedule - then it just runs that gpm but it's not background filtering because I've told it what gpm to run at.

When you create a schedule with a pump gpm the software warns you that running that circuit will disable background filtering.

I guess what I'm getting at as a whole is how the schedules/circuits should be configured to background filter 24/7?

Right now the VF pump is on the first relay's line side and my ozone and uv are on the load side of the same relay. I tried not putting any circuits in the pump set up section and configured the system for background filtering - the software would say the pump was on but the pump won't run unless I put in a circuit named pool with a specified gpm... Uggg

Thanks!!!
John

I have the VF and had the same concerns. I like to run the pumps 24/7 to maintain flow to my heater, intellichem and intellichlor. I could never toget it to stay on 24/7 in the schedule menu.

In the run once menu there is a time setting of "dont stop" so the VF is in the run once with no stop as the setting and stays on 24/7. hope that helps.

Hi,

Thanks for responding!

According to the manual, "background filtering" should calculate the the flow to do the turnovers specified in the time specified - even its it's split up into multiple sessions.

I can't get background filtering to work at all - it used to work until my drive died (brand new pump, brand new Easy Touch), they replaced the drive and background filtering seemed to be working but would shut off randomly well before the turnover was complete - I would have to switch the circuit back on to get the pump running again. This is all after doing the correct backwash, rinse cycles ad nauseam to reset the pressure reading. The only way I can get the pump to run now is to put in a circuit called "pool" (the main pump circuit for the VF pump) with a specified flow rate (55GPM) and then create a schedule for that circuit - this is not background filtering as the pump just does what it's been told to do and is not monitoring the filter pressure, calculating flows to achieve turnovers and not showing any percentage on the filter status graph in Screen Logic.

I wish someone at Pentair knew how this pump/interface worked and could help people with it. When I bought the Easy Touch the Pentair website made it seem like the VF series pump was the one to have to be able to use all features of the interface.

Sadly, the local Pentair-contracted pool guy and the Pentair rep himself suggested I downgrade to the VS series pump that they sell more of.

I don't use any chlorine - my pool is sanitized by ozone, UV and very small amount of copper and silver ions. It's critical when running a chemical free pool that the systems run 24/7. The system has to have a specified GPM not a specified "speed" and the VF when working as advertised should ramp up or down to meet the specified GPM - correct???

There must be someone who knows how to program the system to get background filtering to work 24/7 rather than not using it at all - why was it put into the software of it doesn't work???

Hi John,

I will be happy to assist. This gets very in depth with an Intelliflo VF and will be tough to troubleshoot here. Please private message me with your contact information and I will contact you to iron out all of the details. I look forward to hearing from you!

I can't figure out how to PM

I can't figure out how to PM on this board...

I got a new brick and installed it yesterday - flashed the EEPROM, factory reset the pump, re-installed Screen Logic Connect, re-programmed everything with pump data cable disconnected - then plugged it in and it seemed to be working but the pump just stopped - in service mode it says Power Save and pressing the filter button doesn't turn on the pump - the problem is that the relay is "on" which powers the other equipment which now has no water flow.

Please explain how to PM - THANKS!

john whan you have figured it out please post it here for others. it may be better than my work around using the egg timer in" dont stop" mode thanks.

Cameron--please post these solutions on the forum for all of us. many customers have the same problems ans solving them through private messaging does not help the rest of us.

OK - so the correct way to input a 24hr run is 7:00am-6:59am for example - if the pump finishes it's background job before the 24hrs though, it will go into power save mode and restart later. If you have features that speed up the pump during the background run it will factor that in and thus decrease the time of the background run.

The best thing to do is when having issues is completely start over (IME) - i.e. flash the EEPROM on the Easy Touch to erase all programs and settings, return the pump to factory defaults (after flashing the EEPROM) - this is done by holding the top 4 keys on the pump control pad simultaneously then releasing - the pump will show "Backdoor" - arrow to Par 699 and hit select to highlight the "0" - use the arrow keys to change the "0" to a "1" and then hit enter. The "1" will immediately return to a "0." Then power off the mains to the pump and wait at least 1 minute for the capacitors to drain and the memory to clear. Then reprogram everything the way you want it - should work - go through the backwash/rinse cycle to return the pumps filter status to 0%.

and P.S. I much prefer the VF pump having also had a Vs pump. The VF for me maintains a constant flow so that my heater and intellichlor will stay on even if the filter begins to clog. When RPM goes up I know it may be time for a backwash, but flow switches will still be on.

Thanks for the Update John.

Thanks for the Update John. Interesting that you can flash the rom on the pump as described. How did you flash the easy touch? Is there a restore settting in the menus? I may try this as I have never had the filter status bar working in screen logic.

Interestingly your explanation of the way to set the schedule finally makes sense to me. That would explain why my pump would shut down when I expected a 24/7 run. I posted incorrectly it is in the egg timer mode that the "don't stop " option exists. I would still favor this option because my flow switches will always be on controlling heat and intellichem even if the backround filtering completes and shuts down the pumps.

Thanks.
