I'd like to automate my new pool, with a look towards future expansion down the road.

My pool is a single body of water (no spa), with a capacity of around 12,000 gallons. I'm looking closely at the EasyTouch system because I may want to control things from the outdoor panel (and am told the Intellitouch doesn't allow this). I have a Pool Pilot DIG-220 SWG, and am pretty sure I can tie this into the EasyTouch.

My automation needs are pretty simple:

  • Pool pump/filter (Whisperflo 1HP)
  • Control of the bubblers on our tanning ledge
  • SWG
  • Intellibrite 5G lights
  • Heat pump (may add this year; not currently installed)
  • Landscape lighting (may add this year; not currently installed)

I would like the ability to add the Intellichem down the road, but it's not on the radar this year. Although I doubt it's possible, it might be interesting to tie my sprinkler system into it as well.

One thing I would need for sure is the 520639 wireless kit for the Screenlogic interface, as I don't want to run a cable between the system and my router.

Ideally, I would look up a Pentair-authorized dealer near us, but the only thing that comes up for our zip code (74014...near Tulsa, OK) is Leslie's, and I've no idea who I'd be dealing with there.

I'm thinking I'd like to purchase the necessary equipment myself, then find a qualified installer, as it would save me $, and the budget's really tight.

Can you tell me exactly what I would need? For example, since I already have a 100-amp service panel dedicated for the pool equipment, I wouldn't want to duplicate its functionality with the EasyTouch. Also, could you include any valve actuators as well?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Certainly go with an Easytouch 8 so you have a couple extra relays.  That part number is 520703.

This will control all the equipment you listed, but I'm not sure on the level of communication on the pool pilot.

ScreenLogic will require the 520500 kit plus that 520639 wireless kit.

This particular panel does not come with any actuators, so you will need to add those (max of two).  Part number 263045.

All Easytouch panels come with a breaker base, so you should be able to transfer power from that 100 amp breaker to the Easytouch.

Thanks Ben....

Would there be any advantage in going with an Intellitouch system over the EasyTouch? (Trying to learn more about the differences between the two systems).

And where would you suggest I look to learn more about integration/control of the PoolPilot SWG?

I looked deeper and found that Intellitouch will work with many salt systems including yours, but Easytouch does not officially support anything other than Intellichlor.

Intellitouch can do these things that Easytouch can't:

Expand to multiple panels, adding relays and valve actuators

With a single panel, expand to control 5 actuators

Perform circuit macros (turn on and off multiple circuits)

More programs and circuit name options

Easier to control feature circuits

Optional I-link interface for use with home automation systems

Power center option (no breaker base)

More advanced control displays

Ben...thanks again for the information. Going back to my original question, which Intellitouch part numbers would be needed for our equipment (and possible future expansion plans)? It might make more sense to go with Intellitouch, as our Pool Pilot is brand new, and we wouldn't need the Intellichlor.

521215 if you want the breaker base included, 521216 if not.

i9 personality kit - 521224

wired or wireless controller - 520138 or 520906

520500 for the screenlogic, and the 520639 wireless kit.

Also any actuators you want, same part number.

Thanks Ben!
