There is an often overlooked energy saving option available to everyone, every year. It is also the most simple. As the weather cools, so does pool water. This usually causes a decrease in use and bather load, as well, the chemical needs and turn over needs of the pool decrease drastically. You might monitor you chemicals and decrease the amount of chemicals, but did you know you could cut the operating time of the filter pump by as much as 1/4 during the cooler months. That is right cut operating cost by as much as 75%. So as the weather cools, decrease your pool filter pump operating time. You will have to use your judgement, but my experience is that you can cut a pool that typically operates for 8 hrs a day in the summer down to as little as 2 hrs a day in the winter.
Good luck.
P.S. for those of you with intelliflo pumps, you can also make adjustments, but if programed correctly, likely don't need to make the adjustment as your operating costs are so low when the pump is running at its slow filtration rate.
