Hi,
I'm in the middle of renovating my 15x30 (15-20,000 gallon) pool. I really like the idea of the iPhone app to control the pool so we're investing in the IntelliTouch and ScreenLogic. We have the Intellitouch all set up with the Mobiletouch wireless control and we're slowly getting all the equipment online.
The ScreenLogic is still in the box. Before we start deploying it I have a few questions:
1. ScreenLogic offers a 'wireless kit' to avoid the need for the 4 conductor wire from the IntelliTouch to the ScreenLogic router. Can I use the existing transmitter for the MobileTouch for this? What other equipment would I need if I had one transmitter and two receivers? (ie MobileTouch and ScreenLogic)
2. I already have a 802.11n network consisting of an Apple Airport Extreme and a number of Airport Expresses as repeaters. Can I use this network instead of the wireless router that ScreenLogic wants to use?
3. My pool technician is not very familiar with Pentair. One issue we have is that for some operations it seems he needs access to the MobileTouch control unit. Aside from buying the service technician's control unit are there any other options we have to give him control of the pool systems? Can ScreenLogic help him manage anything remotely?
4 Will the iPhone app work remotely or does it need to be on the same network as the ScreenLogic?
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

For #3, specifically, he was concerned about being able to read the salt level and set the chlorination level for the AquaRite chlorinator. If the chlorinator is being managed by the Intellitouch I don't see a way to manipulate the output percentage from the control panel, only the MobileTouch.

- no, they work on different frequencies
- That can work, but we only support our routers.
- he should be able to put the outside panel in time out mode and activate anything. I suppose if he had a laptop with the software installed, he could use that.
- you will be able to access the pool equipment from anywhere, as long as you setup the system correctly.

Like you, I invested in the IntelliTouch and ScreenLogic and now am setting it up. Transmitter from pool is set up but I have an Apple Extreme router (wireless router) and am being told I can't simply plug the ScreenLogic adaptor into it as the Apple Extreme is "not compatible." How did you make your Apple Extreme work? Step by step directions if you have them please.
Thanks,
John

Thank you for your response. The key bit of info here is you were able to connect your Protocol Adaptor with an RJ45 to the airport extreme router to access the internet AND it all works now. Did you have to configure any of the AE router's ports (forward ports, etc.) to make the adaptor work? Is your home computer on which you locally log-in a PC or an Apple computer? Mine is an Apple (iMac) and I've been told that may be an issue. Thanks again.
Regards,
John

John,
A lot changed with screenLogic2. My current setup is a hard line from the IntelliTouch to the ScreenLogic protocol adaptor and then RJ45 to the airport extreme. If the protocol adaptor has an appropriate IP then it just works.
I believe SL2 supports DHCP which does this for you.

Permalink Reply by John Faulkner on February 22, 2012 at 6:08pm Thank you again. Really appreciate your assistance here. It would appear the person who has been helping me is working with assumptions based on ScreenLogic1.
Like Jeremy stated, Screenlogic has been updated. As long as your adapter is running the Screenlogic 2 firmware, it now gets it's address via DHCP vs. a static IP in the previous version. The result is that it doesn't need a dedicated router and will usually work on any home network.
Permalink Reply by Tony C. monogramcustompools.com on February 23, 2012 at 1:01pm to further corroborate the ease of screenlogic 2...I am a pennsylvania based pool builder and I am in San Diego for a few days for a pool builder conference.
I just took the train (I am actually on it now returning) to LA to install a screenlogic 2 adaptor on a friends pool. I connected the the 4 conductor comm wire to the adaptor and plugged an rj45 ethernet cable from the screenlogic 2 adaptor to my friends existing router. No configuration...no set up. total install time (including connecting the comm wire was about 10 minutes.) I downloaded screenlogic 2 onto his iphone and was connected within seconds.
He still thinks I am some kind of tech genius....but it really couldn't be any easier if you are using screenlogic 2. Literally..plug and play.
