I finally opened up my TM-22 multiport valve today to inspect it and lube the seals and I noticed something odd. It appears to be a manufacturing defect in the valve that has been present since day 1. As you can see in the photo, it looks like the plastic piece that directs the clean water into the valve mechanism was not molded into place correctly and is letting dirty water bypass the sand and flow directly back into the pool.

Does this appear to be a defect or is it designed to work this way?

@Russ

It's not a molding defect, but that piece isn't in the right place either.  The bottom of the valve has multiple pieces and that one is held in alignment via two raised bumps that you can see from the bottom.  It might pop into place if you poke it.  Let me know if it doesn't.  It won't hurt anything  like this, just to ease your mind.

 This section is used to allow trapped air out of the filter.  It has the holes to keep the big stuff out if you have too much sand inside.

I can't seem to move it, I'm afraid to use any more force on it lest it break on me. The bottom basket doesn't come off does it? (It seems to be glued into place). It is preventing me from getting direct leverage on that piece.

The bottom is glued, so it won't come off.  I'll send you a private message to get some personal info.
