Optimum Solar Sensor Settings
Hello everyone.
My solar system (intelliflo, suntouch) is operating and seems to be doing a pretty good job. However, when the pool approaches the set temperature, the solar system turns on and off repeatedly after only several seconds to a couple minutes. I have my pool set temp set to 32c, solar on temp diff to 6 and solar off temp diff to 2. I've played with these settings a bit, but still have the problem. Could it be the solar sensor placement or something else? I'm not sure what to do but do not like the pump changing speeds from 1800rpm to 2800rpm continually; I'm sure that can't be good for the pump.
Also, on a related topic, then the pump (new Intelliflo 8 speed) is running at 2800rpm it is very noisy. When buying this pump I was told it was ultra quite and is at low speed (under 2000rpm), but at higher speed it is noisier than my old single speed pump. Is this normal?

The solar sensor should be located at the panels, and the water temp sensor should be between the pump and filter for correct operation. It seems that maybe the system is seeing different temps when the system turns on/off for some reason.
Keep in mind that this is a 3hp pump at full speed, so it can move a lot of water. As the rpm increase, the water flow will also increase. The movement of water can get loud if the flow is more than the plumbing is meant for. Maybe 2800 is too much for your system?

I think the sensors are installed correctly. I will have to play with it some more I guess and see if it helps. The pool doesn't reach the set temperature when the solar starts turning on and off. So, it must be an issue with the solar and water sensor. The problem usually starts when the pool temp is around 29c-30c (set temp. 32c). Also, this happens in full sun, no clouds, etc.
The noise from the pump is not flow noise, more like a medium pitched howl, possibly the cooling fan? I require 100 l/min to the roof (20 l/min each collector) which I think I'm pretty close to at 2800rpm. I have a flow meter on order to confirm that. The pool is heating, so I must be close to the recommended flow rate of the collectors. I wasn't aware this pump would make this much noise even at higher speeds.

If you subtract the flow noise, the pump noise does get louder but no more than a standard pump. It does have a fan, so that adds some wind noise that a regular pump wouldn't have. Maybe you have something rubbing somewhere?

Nothing seems to be rubbing. The pump is very quiet at low speeds, but quite noisy at higher speeds. I guess they are not as whisper quiet as claimed.

If possible, record and upload some video of the various speeds. That way we can listen to see if it's abnormal.
