What do you know now about owning a swimming pool that you wish you knew when you originally designed or inherited the pool you own today?

We built our pool back in 1981. I wish back then that the swimming against the water coming toward you item (can't think of the name of it) was available. It is so expensive to add it to our pool that I do not think we ever will.
I wish I knew that having a "healthy" pool (water quality) is really fairly simple, in theory.

There are SO many "magic" products for fixing the laundry list of problems you can have with a pool...and now I hardly use any of them. Since I've upgraded to a DE filter, a correctly sized pump, and a chlorine generator, and with my existing Polaris cleaner to keep the leaves picked up, I hardly have to do anything to keep the water clear. My main issue is keeping the pH balanced, which requires acid once in a while.

So while the makers of all those products want you to keep buying them, my point is that even a 33,000 gallon pool in Atlanta requires very little maintenance if its basic "needs" are being met (adequate filtration and appropriate chlorine levels).
