Some comments and some food for thought.

This summer we installed an Inteliflo  variable speed pump.  The energy savings were immediate.  Run the pool longer at a low speed.  save real $$$  As the pump speed increases, the watts per RPM ramps steeply.  You probably run your 3/4 HP pump at 2750 rpm now.  You can run at 1100 rpm for 1/4 the watts of 2200 RPM and so on. (You can run the VS pump at 750 rpm all day for less $$ but we found there's not enough flow for the skimmer to draw the leaves in.)

You'll need to switch to a higher speed for the few hours while the sweep is running. Thus you need an automatic controller.

We had a 10-year old Jandy controler and had difficulty finding a tech who could connect up the Intelliflo to it.  We bought an Inteliiflo control unit and its in series with the Jandy.  Now Im told that we could have wired the Inteliflo pump directly to it with a special cable.
