In 1992, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched its ENERGY STAR® program. The program helps identify and promote energy efficient products nationwide and awards its very familiar ENERGY STAR® certification to products that meet product-specific criteria.

The EPA’s website offers savings tips, factsheets, product reviews and more. You can also search and compare certified products using the Product Finder tool. The site even allows you to search by ZIP code to find ENERGY STAR® partners, like Pentair, who offer rebates on certified products, such as variable speed pumps, high-efficiency heaters and other pool equipment. Learn more about the rebates Pentair is offering here.

In addition to having an energy efficient pool pump, it’s also important to make sure your pool pump in good working order. According to the EPA, if all pool pumps sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR® certified, the energy cost savings would grow to about $1.3 billion each year and 22 billion pounds of annual greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented. That’s the equivalent to emissions from more than 2 million vehicles!
