Comment by Dana Brigham on July 30, 2011 at 2:06pm Hey Karen -- Kayak pools was still selling the original JWP 1HP pump a few months ago if you wanted to get the exact same one. Call them at 1-800-52-ORDER and ask for FS288008 (JWP 1HP pump, side-discharge with twist-lock cord) -- that's the exact model that we originally had. Item FS288009 is the same thing with a normal 3-prong power cord. $299.9 plus shipping.
They also sell the Optiflo 1HP pump and an adapter pipe to connect to the System 2 filter -- FS288017 (vertical discharge with twist-lock cord) or FS288020 (vertical with 3-prong cord) for $279.99 plus shipping and then you need the PTF Connector FSP/155770 $31.95. To use that adapter (PTF Connector) you need to buy the *vertical* discharge pump. This setup should have the new pump "snap in" to the plastic base for the whole filter.
What I did was order the Optiflo pump with the side discharge from a less expensive place and then I made a direct connection between it and the filter inlet. But it does not sit on the filter plastic base -- it sits just beyond the base. So far it has been working fine this summer -- if anything it's a bit more powerful than the old pumps.

Comment by Karen Faust on July 30, 2011 at 12:42pm It appears I have the same setup as Dana and I also need a new pump. Where can I buy a replacement pump for this setup? We just purchased the new filter (system 2) last season.
@Brandi
Pressure will vary depending on many different things. It would be helpful to see some pictures of the plumbing (where the pump and pool connections are connected).

The optiflo pump will have different threads than the JWPA did, so the connector you have shouldn't screw on. You could switch to a vertical discharge pump instead (347985), and get a 155770 connector.
Comment by Dana Brigham on May 31, 2011 at 8:20am Thank you Ben.
Yeah -- the outlet of the Optiflo (and just about every other side-discharge pump that I can find) is not in the exact same place as the JWPA pump -- so I have to do something about that. Unfortunately I cannot turn the filter itself 90-degrees to make room for a connection hose, because attached directly to the outlet of the filter is a Pool FROG chlorinator on a stiff PVC pipe, and sitting on a plastic platform extension to the filter base. Ugh!
I guess what I will have to do is cut off the part of the platform that the JWPA pump snaps onto, then build up a new platform (pressure-treated/sealed wood) to get the Optiflo pump in the right position to connect directly to the union into the filter. :-(

@Dana
You can get a Sta-rite Optiflo pump (347982sr) to replace yours (dynamo's don't come in side discharge). You will need to turn your filter 90* though and get an adapter hose (155765) so the pump can connect to the filter.
Comment by Dana Brigham on May 26, 2011 at 6:48am I have Kayak 16' x 32' on-ground pool with a Sta-Rite modular filter (System 2) with a Sta-Rite JWPA5E7L-2A2 1HP side-discharge pump. This is the start of my 7th season with the pool/filter and the front bearing on my pump motor is whining again -- I replaced it at the beginning of the 2009 season also. The exact replacement pumps are discontinued and I would like something more reliable. Would a Pentair Dynamo 1HP pump, with the discharge rotated to the side, be a suitable replacement?
Thanks (pool is getting green with no water circulating!) -- Dana
@Del
There is a universal hose connection that should fit those. It has 30" of hose and you can cut that to fit just right. The part number is 155764.
Comment by Del Kaatz on May 24, 2011 at 1:44pm Yes it is all on a plastic base and connected by a hose from pump to filter.
