Be a “STAR” with Pentair this Earth Day!
Earth Day is April 22nd and we’re excited to be celebrating. Here at Pentair we’re more than just a pool manufacturer; we’re actually a lot more. In addition to offering the world’s greatest pool equipment, we also offer water treatment equipment, commercial flow technologies, filtration solutions and innovative aquaculture techniques. Pentair is a company dedicated to improving the use of life’s most essential resource – water.
Those statistics are staggering and show the harsh reality of water waste. At Pentair we believe that the health of our world depends on reliable access to clean water and it is our mission to deliver smart, sustainable solutions that empower our customers to make the most of this precious resource.
Earth Day isn’t just about conserving water. It’s about protecting the entire earth and all of its resources. This year the Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging everyone to be a “STAR” for the environment this Earth Day by picking ENERGY STAR® certified products that save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Here are a few ideas on how you can be a “STAR” this Earth Day:
Check Your Pool Equipment
Your pool is a place where you and your family go to relax, but did you know it’s a great place to save money and the environment? Well, it is!
How old is your pool pump? If it’s over seven years old, it might be time for a new one. Learn more here about how you can tell if it’s time to replace your pump.
ENERGY STAR pool pumps, like the IntelliFlo® VSF Variable Speed and Flow Pump by Pentair, save energy by adjusting the speed or flow rate for the task at hand. This provides you with the ultimate system performance and the highest energy savings available.
By upgrading to a Pentair pump with variable speed technology, you can save up to 90%* in energy costs (or up to $1,500* a year)! That’s a lot of savings for such a simple change. In addition to annual savings from a variable speed pool pump, Pentair is offering rebates on select ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps through September. Learn more here.
Pentair also offers a line of Eco Select® Brand products. Eco Select Brand efficient pumps have helped U.S. consumers save $1.5 billion between 2005 and 2017 which translates into 14 billion kilowatt hours of energy saved. The kilowatt energy savings helped prevent the release of nine million tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of 18.9 billion car driven miles. (Pentair Pool) In addition to Eco Select Brand pumps, Pentair offers Eco Select Brand cleaners, lights, heaters and sanitation equipment. Learn more about the Eco Select Brand here.
Consider Urban Farming and Aquaponics
Most people think of urban farming as green spaces in cities where communities come together to grow fresh vegetables. Urban farming is more than that, especially when you add in aquaponics.
Aquaponics is the future of farming, combining aquaculture and hydroponics. Meaning it’s where fish and plants grow in a symbiotic biologically-balanced system, where the plants are fed the aquatic animals’ discharge or waste. In return, the plants clean the water that goes back to the fish. (Permaculture Research Institute) The result is a perfect collaboration between aquaculture and gardening.
Aquaponics uses only about two-percent of the water needed in conventional farming with minimal space requirements and provides hope for a more sustainable way to produce organic crops. This technology can be sized up or down – from huge indoor farms to something special for your home – depending on the need. Regardless of the size of the project, Pentair has the equipment you need to make your urban farm successful.
Take the Earth Day Pledge
But we can’t do it alone – and that’s where you come in! The EPA offers an Earth Day pledge, where you promise to do your part this Earth Day and take energy-saving actions in your home today. Each action you take will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help protect our planet for years to come.
Take the pledge here!
Together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and especially our water. In 2016, two thirds of the world’s population already lived in areas that experience water scarcity at least one month a year. (UN Water) As you can tell there’s no time to waste when it comes to making the most of our water resources.
