Pentair Takes The Department of Energy's Workplace Charging Challenge Pledge
As the world’s leading manufacturer of pool and spa equipment, we believe it is our responsibility to also lead the industry in environmental stewardship. We recently signed the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Workplace Charging Challenge Pledge, which aims to achieve a tenfold increase in the number of U.S. employers offering workplace electric vehicle (EV) charging by 2018.
According to the DOE, drivers charge their vehicles primarily at home, but accessing chargers at work can help owners double their vehicles' all-electric daily commuting range. Pentair’s two electric vehicle charging stations at its Sanford, N.C. headquarters can charge a total of four vehicles at a time. In addition to installing charging stations, Pentair periodically helps employees learn more about the benefits of electric vehicles through educational sessions and electric vehicle test drive opportunities.
The Workplace Charging Challenge Pledge is our latest initiative to reduce our environmental impact. This year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named us an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for our outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products and educating consumers about energy efficiency. Also, our Eco Select brand designation helps consumers identify our most eco-friendly pool and spa equipment choices.
The Workplace Charging Challenge is part of the DOE’s EV Everywhere Grand Challenge, in which stakeholders across the nation are working together to enable the U.S. to produce plug-in electric vehicles that are as affordable and convenient as gasoline powered vehicles by 2022.
